Buddhism vs. Hinduism

If you had a choice, would you rather be a Buddhist or Hindu? Compare and contrast the two and explain why you choose the religion you picked.

  1. To me, I feel like I'd rather be a Hindu, for one sole reason, Brahman. That idea of a collective divine spirit, and that everything that exists "borrowed" a fraction of a fraction of Brahman intrigues me. Although Hinduism isn't a perfect religion (an example of how it is unfair is how Hindu societies treat women) it definitely is a very logical religion, and does appeal to most logical thinkers.

Buddhists believe that everything there is to know about the world can be found within yourself. Although I don't disagree with that idea, I don't completely agree with that idea either. To me, the whole point of religion is to seek explanation for something that cannot be explained, or more specifically, to provide an optimistic answer to the question "So... what happens when we die...?" The reason I say this is because most (if not all) religions in the world directly answer that question in order to calm the nerves of the old or provide comfort to the ill. This statement holds true to almost all the elderly in the world. For example, my great grandmother (and my grandma for that matter) are both very religious people. I remember questioning myself a couple of years ago asking "Why is mama (what we call grandma) so religious...?" And i came to the same conclusion I have just given, and I've held fast to it ever since.

  2. I think I'd be Hindu. Buddhism is alright, but I prefer the Hindu view. That there all gods are really one god being worshiped in different forms and shapes. It feels more universal. But in truth, I'd still prefer no religion. I still reject a beleif that an all power spiritual presence is present within the universe, no matter how its interpretted.

  3. I'd definately go with Hindu. Riencarnation just seems so cool. I could be a millionare if I'm nice enough here. And even if we don't have our memories, mabey our past life might be able to experience it even though it can interact. Though, I think I might be asking to much. It'd also be really cool to be like a falcon! =D
